The Rhythm of Serving

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.”
—Luke 9:23–24 (NIV)

There’s something powerful that happens when we step outside our routines and into the needs of others. Serve Day isn’t just a day on the calendar—it’s an invitation into the heart of Jesus. When we serve, we reflect His compassion, His humility, and His relentless pursuit of people. And when we rest, we reflect His wisdom—His reminder that we’re not meant to live on empty.

This past Sunday’s message reminded us that spiritual growth isn’t random—it’s rhythmic. Just like the natural world has seasons, tides, and patterns, our souls need rhythm too. Daily connection. Weekly rest. Monthly reflection. Seasonal retreat. These aren’t burdens—they’re gifts. And they anchor us in a world that pulls us in a thousand directions.

When we give our time, our energy, our comfort away, we gain more than we lose. We become more alive, more in sync with God’s heartbeat. It’s in pouring out that we’re filled.

Reflection:

As Serve Day approaches, take a moment today to ask: Am I living in rhythm with God—or in reaction to everything else? This week, let’s lean into both serving and resting, knowing that each one draws us closer to the life Jesus modeled. Service isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are becoming. Let’s live surrendered, steady, and in step with Him.
